One of LoMA’s favorite and focal artists is the universally-regarded genius Le Corbusier who quintessentially represents the qualities of Modernity.
For many people it may still come as a surprise that Le Corbusier beside being a famous architect, designer, theorist, writer and poet, was an extraordinary artist with an extraordinary talent as well.
Indeed his austere character dictated that each morning he dedicated himself to paiting and in the afternoon to architecture.
In Le Corbusier’s eyes painting was the most important medium for his artistic expression.
LoMA and the graphic work by Le Corbusier
LoMA sells Le Corbusier’s original graphic works. The collector and company owner Andreas Locher is also the author of an article and two booklets about the Centre Le Corbusier in Zurich and the Le Corbusier’s Swiss muse (watch home/articles).
The Le Corbusier lithographs and etchings represent the pinnacle of artistic achievements of the 20th century. They are aesthetic and humanistic: the perfect works of art for public, office and private spaces that are comfortable and inspiring to live and work with.
Le Corbusier’s lithographs are the artistic accomplishment of his last seven years. The well-known French master printers Mourlot and Crommelynck printed the L-C lithographs.
All the lithographs that LoMA sells are limited originals whose stones and plates have been destroyed and can never be further expanded.
All the lithographs we offer for sale are in mint condition. Each work is referenced in the award-winning book LE CORBUSIER – THE GRAPHIC WORK, that can be ordered online: www.birkhauser.ch
Each lithograph we sell includes a copy of the plan for the original oak frame designed by Le Corbusier.

Are lithographs originals?
Yes, indeed, a lithograph is a specific artistic medium. It is a way in which the artist expresses his ideas in art. It is NOT a copy of a “real” painting, it is a piece of art in itself.
The artist choses this medium and realizes his idea on a stone or copper plate that is then printed on paper.
Lithographs – a long history
Lithographs were introduced in the 18th century following the technicque of copper etchings which were already printed in the middle of the 15th century.
Famous artists like Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso, like Le Corbusier have regularly used these techniques.
