One of LoMA’s favorite and focal artists is the universally-regarded genius Le Corbusier who quintessentially represents the qualities of Modernity.
For many people it may still come as a surprise that Le Corbusier beside being a famous architect, designer, theorist, writer and poet, was an extraordinary artist with an extraordinary talent as well.
Indeed his austere character dictated that each morning he dedicated himself to paiting and in the afternoon to architecture.
In Le Corbusier’s eyes painting was the most important medium for his artistic expression.

FAQ

Are lithographs originals?

Yes, indeed, a lithograph is a specific artistic medium. It is a way in which the artist expresses his ideas in art. It is NOT a copy of a “real” painting, it is a piece of art in itself.
The artist choses this medium and realizes his idea on a stone or copper plate that is then printed on paper.

Lithographs – a long history
Lithographs were introduced in the 18th century following the technicque of copper etchings which were already printed in the middle of the 15th century.

Famous artists like Rembrandt, Goya and Picasso, like Le Corbusier have regularly used these techniques.
